Path to Math

We help kids understand math like a second language.

Many parents tell us the math today looks nothing like what they did in the classroom. We're not surprised. At SCORE! we feel it's important for kids to have a strong understanding of the basic math facts while also applying those facts to a conceptual understanding of the math problem and solution – because that understanding leads to retention. This process is illustrated through the SCORE! Path to Math.

Path to Math

  • Conceptual Understanding is the understanding of why or how to work through the math problem, which supports fluency and leads to retention.
  • Fluency is the act of reciting math facts, much like being able to read a word. This works with conceptual understanding because it helps kids reason and apply understanding.
  • Reasoning occurs when your child is able to explain how and why he chose a particular path to get to the answer.
  • Application is being able to apply the problem-solving nature of your child's math knowledge to get the correct answer.
